  2.                      High-Speed CD-ROM Drive README File

  4. This README file contains the newest information that is not shown in the
  5. User's Manual.  Please read the following comments carefully before starting
  6. installation:

  9. 1. Release Note:
  10.  
  11.    A. There are two kinds of installation types: Easy Install and
  12.       Custom Install.
  13.  
  14.    B. Easy Install relies on installation program to make decision, so
  15.       installing Device Driver is quick and easy.
  16.  
  17.    C. Custom Install is for computer users who want to have more control
  18.       over how Device Driver is installed.
  19.  
  20.    D. DMA and Ultra DMA Bus Master transfer mode is supported by appending 
  21.       a software option /DMA to command line of device driver in CONFIG.SYS, 
  22.       ex., DEVICE = C:\HXCD-ROM\CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001 /DMA
  23.  
  24.    E. PIO mode 4 and DMA mode 2 can only work on PC or PC-compatibles with 
  25.       Intel Triton, SIS 5120, 5598 and VIA VT82C580VPX chipsets employed. 
  26.       It may not work in other PC systems.
  27.    
  28.    F. Ultra DMA mode 2 for Intel 430TX, 440LX, SIS 5120, 5598 and VIA VT82-
  29.       C580VPX chipsets is supported now.

  31.    G. The command line "LASTDRIVE=" will be added into CONFIG.SYS 
  32.       automatically after installation.

  36. 2. Troubleshooting:
  37.  
  38.    (I)   SMARTDRV.EXE(or SMARTDRV.SYS) should be hooked before MSCDEX.EXE
  39.          for proper caching.
  40.  
  41.    (II)  If there are two CD-ROM drives in your PC, only one Device Driver
  42.          (CDROM.SYS or others) and MSCDEX.EXE is necessary.

  44.    (III) Ask your local dealers for help.
